The Nero Black Marble Pencil Trim is a slender honed marble finishing profile measuring 305 × 16 × 15mm. Designed for the finer details of a tiled installation, it can be used to finish an exposed tile edge, frame a recessed niche or splashback, or create a narrow transition between different tile formats. Its compact pencil-liner profile adds definition without taking attention away from the main tiled surface.
The deep black character of Nero Black marble makes this trim particularly effective where a scheme needs a precise dark outline or a coordinated finishing detail. It works well around bathroom niches, kitchen splashbacks, half-height tiled walls and decorative panels, and can also be used to separate adjoining layouts or create a controlled border within a feature wall. The honed finish gives the marble a softer, low-sheen surface rather than a highly reflective appearance.
For the closest material relationship, pair the trim with the Nero Black Marble Tile Collection, which Starel currently offers in multiple honed metro, square and rectangular formats for interior walls and floors. Where the scheme also needs a more substantial perimeter detail, the Nero Marquina Honed Skirting or Nero Marquina Honed Slim Skirting sit within the same Nero Black collection and can continue the dark marble palette at the wall-to-floor junction.
Nero Black also has a broad family of coordinating mosaics. The Nero Black Marble Herringbone Mosaic, Cracked Mini Mosaic, Fan Scallop Mosaic, Penny Hexagon Mosaic, Mini Mosaic and Wave Mosaic can introduce pattern or a change of scale within niches, splashbacks and feature areas while retaining the same black-marble character. The current Herringbone Mosaic is honed and is specifically presented as part of the wider Nero Marquina/Nero Black range.
Choose this exact trim when the project needs a discreet 16mm-wide black marble detail rather than a broader border. Its narrow format is especially useful for framing smaller architectural elements or introducing a crisp dark line while allowing the principal tile or mosaic pattern to remain dominant.
As Nero Black is a natural marble, colour, veining, tone and pattern will vary between pieces. Dry lay the trim with the selected tiles or mosaics before fixing so the natural variation can be assessed and distributed thoughtfully. The coordinating Nero Black tile collection requires sealing, and ongoing care should use suitable pH-neutral, stone-safe products. Final cutting, placement and installation should be confirmed for the specific project.
Yes! All our marble tiles and mosaics are suitable with underfloor heating.
Yes, we highly recommend dry laying your marble tiles before fixing them in place. Marble is a natural stone, and each tile is unique in its veining, tone, and pattern. Unlike man-made tiles, marble pieces are not identical, which is part of their beauty.
Dry laying means arranging all the tiles on the floor before applying adhesive, so you can:
Skipping this step can lead to an uneven appearance, as tiles placed at random may clash in tone or pattern. Taking the time to dry lay ensures a more harmonious and professional finish.
Yes. All natural stone products, including marble, limestone, and onyx, require sealing to maintain their appearance and durability.
We recommend sealing the tiles after installation, once the adhesive is fully dry. This protects the marble from grout staining. After grouting, allow the grout to cure, then clean the tiles thoroughly and apply a final coat of stone sealer to protect both the tile and grout.
To keep your surfaces in top condition, reseal every 1–3 years, depending on usage and wear.
