Bluestone Marble Square Outdoor Paving is a tumbled natural marble cobble designed to bring smaller-scale geometry and cool blue-grey stone character to outdoor floors. Measuring 100 × 100mm, its compact square format creates a noticeably different effect from larger paving slabs or elongated rectangular cobbles, giving patios, pathways, entrance areas and landscape details a more rhythmic, structured surface.
Starel describes Bluestone as a mix of cool blues and faint greys. Because it is natural marble, individual pieces vary in colour, tone and markings, allowing the finished paving to retain genuine stone character rather than appearing completely uniform.
What does Bluestone Square Outdoor Paving help you achieve?
The main benefit is detailed natural-stone paving at a compact scale.
Square cobbles introduce more joints and repetition across a surface than larger paving formats. This makes the paving pattern itself an important part of the design and allows smaller areas, borders and transitions to be defined clearly.
Bluestone Square Outdoor Paving can help you:
• create a structured natural-stone pathway or entrance
• introduce compact geometric detail to patios and landscaped areas
• define planting borders and changes between outdoor zones
• create smaller-format sections alongside larger paving
• bring cool blue-grey natural stone into an exterior material palette
Used across a complete area, the square pieces create a regular grid. Used selectively, they can act as a visual transition between larger surfaces or help highlight a particular threshold or route.
Where does this paving work best?
Starel lists the product for outdoor floor use and highlights applications including driveways, kerbside areas and vegetation borders. It can also be considered within wider patio, garden and entrance schemes where the project build-up and installation are appropriate.
The 100 × 100mm proportion is particularly effective in narrower pathways or smaller areas where very large paving pieces can feel out of scale.
It can also be useful around the perimeter of a terrace or within an entrance zone, where a deliberate change in paving format helps distinguish one part of the exterior from another.
For driveways and other higher-demand areas, the substrate, drainage, bedding system and complete construction should be confirmed by an experienced installer for the particular project.
Why choose the square Bluestone format?
The main distinction is geometry.
Rectangular cobbles naturally create a stronger directional line. A square format creates a more balanced pattern that does not visually favour one direction, making it useful for courtyards, intersections, borders and areas where the paving should feel more contained.
The tumbled finish also gives the stone a softer, more established appearance than sharply cut paving. It works particularly well where the design calls for natural variation and a less formal outdoor character.
Bluestone itself offers a cooler alternative to beige or warm-grey paving. Its blue-to-grey palette can sit comfortably beside planting, rendered walls, brick, wood and other exterior materials without introducing a dominant decorative colour.
Which Starel Stones products complement it?
The strongest exterior pairing is Bluestone Marble Outdoor Paving. Using different Bluestone formats can create a coordinated scheme while introducing changes in scale between main terraces, paths, borders and thresholds. Starel lists both Bluestone paving formats within its wider natural-stone paving range.
For adjoining interior spaces, the Bluestone Marble Tile Collection provides the clearest material continuation. The range includes honed and tumbled formats across several sizes, allowing the broader blue-grey stone direction to continue indoors while using a surface appropriate to the interior application.
For more decorative internal areas, the Bluestone Geo Marble Mosaic introduces smaller-scale geometric detail, while the Bluestone Marble Penny Round Mosaic provides a softer circular contrast to the square outdoor paving.
Starel also carries Bluestone Marble Honed Skirting, which can help continue the same stone family into interior finishing details.
These products coordinate through the broader Bluestone material family, but exact tone and markings should not be expected to match because natural marble varies.
Installation and care
Bluestone Marble Square Outdoor Paving requires sealing. Starel also recommends dry laying natural marble before installation so differences in tone and pattern can be distributed intentionally across the finished surface.
The installer should confirm the appropriate substrate, drainage, fixing system, joints and sealing products for the specific exterior application.
Bluestone Marble Square Outdoor Paving is ultimately a strong choice where the project needs cool blue-grey natural stone with compact geometric detail: a small square marble cobble that can form pathways, borders and complete paved areas while connecting naturally with Starel’s wider Bluestone collection.
Yes! All our marble tiles and mosaics are suitable with underfloor heating.
Yes, we highly recommend dry laying your marble tiles before fixing them in place. Marble is a natural stone, and each tile is unique in its veining, tone, and pattern. Unlike man-made tiles, marble pieces are not identical, which is part of their beauty.
Dry laying means arranging all the tiles on the floor before applying adhesive, so you can:
Skipping this step can lead to an uneven appearance, as tiles placed at random may clash in tone or pattern. Taking the time to dry lay ensures a more harmonious and professional finish.
Yes. All natural stone products, including marble, limestone, and onyx, require sealing to maintain their appearance and durability.
We recommend sealing the tiles after installation, once the adhesive is fully dry. This protects the marble from grout staining. After grouting, allow the grout to cure, then clean the tiles thoroughly and apply a final coat of stone sealer to protect both the tile and grout.
To keep your surfaces in top condition, reseal every 1–3 years, depending on usage and wear.
