The Black Emperador Marble Tile Collection is a natural marble range for customers who want darker stone with clear material character across interior walls and floors. Its charcoal-black base is broken by lighter natural veining, giving the surface depth and variation without relying on an applied pattern. Available in three honed 10mm square formats — 200 × 200mm, 305 × 305mm and 406 × 406mm — the collection allows the scale of the installation to change while maintaining the same overall stone direction.
What can you achieve with Black Emperador?
Black Emperador is particularly useful when the stone needs to anchor the room rather than disappear into a pale background. The darker colouring can create definition beneath lighter cabinetry, contrast with white or cream marble, or provide a more immersive surface when used across a complete wall or floor.
The three square formats also give you control over the visual rhythm. The 200 × 200mm format creates more joints and a stronger grid, making it useful for smaller bathrooms, cloakrooms, checker-style layouts or detailed feature areas. The 305 × 305mm tile offers a balanced mid-scale option, while the 406 × 406mm format reduces the number of grout lines and gives each piece more space to show its natural pattern.
Using different sizes in separate areas can help distinguish zones while keeping the material consistent.
Where does Black Emperador work best?
The collection is suitable for interior walls and floors, including bathrooms and kitchens, and is compatible with underfloor heating.
In bathrooms, Black Emperador can be used on floors, shower walls, bath surrounds or selected feature sections. It works particularly well where pale sanitaryware, light marble or warm wood needs a darker stone backdrop.
In kitchens, the marble can introduce contrast across floors or selected tiled wall areas and can help ground lighter cabinetry or worktops. It can also be used in hallways, cloakrooms and living areas where a darker natural surface gives the room stronger definition.
The amount of stone used should reflect the intended effect. A complete floor or wall creates a deeper, more enveloping result, while a smaller section can introduce the marble as a controlled focal point.
Why choose this exact marble tile collection?
Black Emperador is a strong choice when the project calls for dark natural stone with more movement than a uniform black surface. Its lighter veining gives the marble visual depth, while the honed finish keeps reflection relatively controlled and allows the stone itself to provide the interest.
The three square sizes are another practical advantage. Rather than switching materials when a different scale is required, you can select the format that suits the room, surface area and desired grout pattern.
As with all natural marble, variation in tone, veining and pattern should be expected. Samples provide a useful indication of the overall character but cannot represent every tile within an order. Dry laying before fixing allows stronger and quieter pieces to be distributed across the installation in a considered way.
Which Starel Stones products complement Black Emperador?
For a same-material detail, the Black Emperador Marble Square Mosaic is the most direct pairing. Its smaller tumbled pieces can introduce more texture and pattern within niches, shower floors, splashbacks or selected feature sections while keeping the broader Black Emperador colour direction.
Starel also carries Black Emperador Marble Checker Tiles, giving the stone a more graphic role within patterned floors or walls. These can be considered where a stronger geometric treatment is preferred to a continuous field of plain square tiles.
For contrast, the Black Emperador and White Emperador Marble Savoy Frame Mosaic combines dark and pale Emperador stones within one decorative pattern. This provides a useful way to connect Black Emperador with lighter surfaces elsewhere in the room without introducing an unrelated material.
The White Emperador Marble Tile Collection can also be considered for adjoining areas where a warmer pale marble is wanted against the darker Black Emperador palette.
Before ordering and installation
Black Emperador marble requires sealing. Use stone-compatible adhesive, grout and pH-neutral cleaning products, and confirm the installation requirements for the exact format and application.
Order a sample as a guide, allow for natural variation and dry lay the tiles before fixing. For wet areas and floors, the complete installation system should be assessed for the intended use before work begins.
Yes! All our marble tiles and mosaics are suitable with underfloor heating.
Yes, we highly recommend dry laying your marble tiles before fixing them in place. Marble is a natural stone, and each tile is unique in its veining, tone, and pattern. Unlike man-made tiles, marble pieces are not identical, which is part of their beauty.
Dry laying means arranging all the tiles on the floor before applying adhesive, so you can:
Skipping this step can lead to an uneven appearance, as tiles placed at random may clash in tone or pattern. Taking the time to dry lay ensures a more harmonious and professional finish.
Yes. All natural stone products, including marble, limestone, and onyx, require sealing to maintain their appearance and durability.
We recommend sealing the tiles after installation, once the adhesive is fully dry. This protects the marble from grout staining. After grouting, allow the grout to cure, then clean the tiles thoroughly and apply a final coat of stone sealer to protect both the tile and grout.
To keep your surfaces in top condition, reseal every 1–3 years, depending on usage and wear.
