The Olive Avangard Tile Collection is a dark natural marble range for creating defined, stone-led walls and floors with deep brown-to-black colouring and contrasting natural movement. Its darker palette makes it particularly effective in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and feature areas where the stone is intended to anchor the scheme rather than disappear into the background. Pair it with Calacatta White for a crisp pale contrast, Botticino or Belgravia for a warmer transition, or oak and walnut furniture to bring out the more natural, earthy side of the stone. Exact format, finish and installation requirements should be confirmed before ordering.
The Olive Avangard Tile Collection is a natural marble range for customers who want a darker, more architectural stone surface with visible natural movement. Olive Avangard is generally recognised for its deep brown-to-black colouring with contrasting lighter veining, giving it greater material depth than a uniform dark manufactured tile.
Rather than acting as a quiet neutral, this is a stone that can anchor an interior. Used across a complete surface, it creates a strong dark foundation; introduced more selectively, it can define a feature wall, vanity area or other architectural section without requiring the whole room to use the same material.
What can you achieve with Olive Avangard tiles?
The principal benefit of Olive Avangard is contrast.
Its dark natural base can provide a clear counterpoint to pale sanitaryware, lighter stone, painted cabinetry or warm wood. This makes it particularly useful where the interior needs greater visual depth or where a stronger material is required to balance otherwise light finishes.
Because Olive Avangard is a natural marble, the surface should not be expected to appear completely uniform. Variations in tone, veining and movement will create differences between individual tiles, helping the finished installation feel stone-led rather than mechanically repeated.
The exact visual rhythm will depend on the tile dimensions and finish selected, so those product specifications should be reviewed before the layout is finalised.
Where does Olive Avangard work best?
Olive Avangard is particularly suited to interiors where darker stone has a clear design purpose.
In bathrooms, it can work effectively on a feature wall, vanity backdrop, shower area or floor, subject to the exact product and installation being confirmed for that application. Pale sanitaryware can create strong contrast, while an oak or walnut vanity can introduce warmth against the darker marble.
In kitchens, the stone can provide a deeper tiled wall or floor surface alongside pale cabinetry, wood furniture or lighter worktops.
It can also work well in cloakrooms, hallways, entrances and living areas where a relatively contained surface can carry more visual weight. Dark marble does not need to cover every wall to influence the room; a considered section can be enough to establish the material direction.
Why choose this exact marble tile collection?
Choose Olive Avangard when you want a dark natural stone with more character than a flat black or brown surface.
The combination of deep colouring and lighter natural movement gives the marble variation and definition while retaining an architectural feel. It can work particularly well in schemes where materials are deliberately contrasted rather than closely matched.
That makes Olive Avangard a useful alternative to pale Calacatta-style marble. Instead of increasing brightness, it can ground the interior and give surrounding lighter finishes more definition.
Natural variation remains fundamental. Samples, where available, should be treated as guides rather than exact representations of a complete order, and tiles should ideally be reviewed and dry laid before fixing so stronger and quieter pieces can be distributed thoughtfully.
Which Starel Stones products complement Olive Avangard?
For a strong light-and-dark relationship, the Calacatta White Marble Tile Collection is a natural companion. Its pale white-marble palette can be used across adjoining walls, floors or decorative areas where visual relief is needed against the darker Olive Avangard.
For a warmer contrast, the Botticino Marble Tile Collection introduces beige natural stone, while Belgravia Marble Tiles provide another softer warm-neutral direction. These combinations can work particularly well where the aim is to move gradually from a dark focal surface into lighter surrounding materials.
Warm oak and walnut vanity units are another useful pairing. Natural wood can soften the darker marble and create a more balanced furniture-led bathroom scheme.
Where a bespoke stone element is required, Starel’s slab selection and Starel Atelier can support suitable vanity tops, splashbacks, fireplaces, furniture pieces or other fabricated details. The exact slab should be selected according to the project rather than assumed to match Olive Avangard automatically.
Before ordering and installation
The exact Olive Avangard tile dimensions, thickness, finish, sealing requirements and confirmed application suitability should be checked before ordering.
As a natural marble, it should be maintained with appropriate stone-safe, pH-neutral cleaning products. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, and confirm the full installation system — including substrate, fixing products, sealing and intended use — before work begins.
Yes! All our marble tiles and mosaics are suitable with underfloor heating.
Yes, we highly recommend dry laying your marble tiles before fixing them in place. Marble is a natural stone, and each tile is unique in its veining, tone, and pattern. Unlike man-made tiles, marble pieces are not identical, which is part of their beauty.
Dry laying means arranging all the tiles on the floor before applying adhesive, so you can:
Skipping this step can lead to an uneven appearance, as tiles placed at random may clash in tone or pattern. Taking the time to dry lay ensures a more harmonious and professional finish.
Yes. All natural stone products, including marble, limestone, and onyx, require sealing to maintain their appearance and durability.
We recommend sealing the tiles after installation, once the adhesive is fully dry. This protects the marble from grout staining. After grouting, allow the grout to cure, then clean the tiles thoroughly and apply a final coat of stone sealer to protect both the tile and grout.
To keep your surfaces in top condition, reseal every 1–3 years, depending on usage and wear.
